Mod 33.5 Preview — Monoliths of Madness

Preview content for Module 33.5: Monoliths of Madness. The PC preview opened August 5, 2026; the official release article went up September 1, 2026 and the module launches that day after maintenance. Everything below still comes from a test build and can change — screenshots get added here as content is verified.

Note: This page rotates each module cycle. When Mod 33.5 ships, this content will be replaced with the next preview. Everything below comes from a test version and can change before release.

What’s Coming in Module 33.5

Straight from the official release article (September 1, 2026). The module revisits four existing zones as a 12-week event campaign.

Monoliths of Madness Event A 12-week event campaign revisiting Menzoberranzan, Northdark Reaches, Narbondellyn, and Dragonbone Vale. One zone is the mainstage each week (marked with a modified map icon) and everyone is downscaled while it is active. Start it by speaking to Master Arcanist Viorel Amakiir in Protector’s Enclave. If you have not finished the active zone’s own campaign yet, you progress in both at once.
Requirements to Join Level 20 minimum, plus zone access from Sergeant Knox in Protector’s Enclave:
• Menzoberranzan — ‘Whispers in the Dark’ + ‘A New Ally’
• Northdark Reaches — ‘The Call of the King’
• Narbondellyn — ‘Whispers in the Dark’ + ‘A Discreet Meeting’
• Dragonbone Vale — ‘Forging the Shield’
Global (server-wide) rewards also need at least 500 Shards of Madness earned.
Campaign & Shards of Madness Four phases of three weeks each. Daily and weekly challenges pay out Shards of Madness, which push you through campaign milestones. Milestone rewards include Warden’s Caches, Insignia Powder, Tradebars, Legendary Dragon Keys, and Mount & Companion Upgrade Tokens. The Staring Cat of Uldun-Dar companion comes from the ‘Can you hear him?’ phase. Rewards can be claimed on up to five characters per account; after that most convert to Warden’s Caches. A Monoliths of Madness Vendor also sells the Epic armor, shirts/pants and rings, Magnificent Illusion Essence, and more Warden’s Caches.
Nightmare Progression (Server-Wide) Every campaign phase also has a global progress bar filled by all player contribution. Clear a phase and everyone who earned at least 500 Shards of Madness is mailed that phase’s reward: Phase 1 gives Burning Hope (artifact), Phase 2 the Umbral Widow mount, Phase 3 the Brimming Bountiful Bag, and Phase 4 both the Peeper Keeper and the Champion of the Emerald Vigil title. If the server does not finish a phase, nobody gets that phase’s reward.
Corrupted Altars Each zone gets two corrupted altars. The first is opened with three Lesser Abyssal Lures, dropped by most enemies in the active zone. Kill what it summons and you can get a Greater Abyssal Lure — three of those open the second altar. Purifying altars is the single biggest source of Shards of Madness, and doing it in a group is the fastest way to move the server-wide bar.
World Boss: Maxare’xek the Mad A roaming world boss that appears every few hours. Killing it grants a one-hour buff that increases your damage inside the zone.
Corrupted Heroic Encounters The existing Heroic Encounters in each zone have been reworked with mechanics drawn from Reaper’s Challenge — burning ground, forced movement, a disease you have to cleanse, and meteor drops.
Two Combat Enchantment Slots You can now equip two Combat Enchantments. On the Enhancements tab the Utility slot moves down into the old Combat slot, freeing two Combat slots — one Strike and one Guard. Because Combat Enchantments give no Combined Rating but do add Item Level, their Item Level has been halved so two of them total the same Item Level as one did before. Your current enchantment is auto-slotted into one of the two. Combat Enchantments now increase Base Damage instead of Damage, so they no longer boost Outgoing Healing.
Item Stacks: 99 → 999 Stack size raised to 999 for Epic Collar Choice Packs, Genie’s Gifts, Potion of Healing Rank 10 (and Rank 10, +1), Black Pearls, and most Coalescent Motes, Overloads, Preservation Wards, and Stronghold Vouchers. Stacks do not auto-merge — drag one onto the other or use the sword button (bind statuses still do not mix).
Coffer of Celestial Insignias A new pickup on the Celestial Synergy tab of the Vault of Piety. Once per account per week for 11 Celestial Coins: a guaranteed 50 Insignia Powder plus either a Rare or an Epic Insignia — a steady passive Insignia Powder stream.
