BingeWatcher ("we", "our", "the app") is a movie, TV show, and anime tracking application. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data.

Information We Collect

When you create an account, we collect:

• Account information: username, email address, and a securely hashed password
• Usage data: movies, TV shows, and anime you add to your library, your ratings, watch status, and personal notes

We do not collect location data, contacts, photos, or any other personal information from your device.

How We Use Your Information

Your data is used solely to:

• Provide your personal watchlist and tracking features
• Generate personalized recommendations based on your ratings and watch history
• Authenticate your account

Third-Party Services

BingeWatcher uses the following third-party APIs to provide movie/show metadata and recommendations:

• TMDB (The Movie Database) — movie and TV show metadata, posters, and search
• TasteDive — collaborative filtering recommendations
• Trakt — community-driven related content
• Jikan (MyAnimeList) — anime metadata and recommendations

These services receive search queries and content IDs to fulfill requests. They do not receive your personal account information, ratings, or watch history.

Data Storage and Security

• Your data is stored in a secure database hosted on Render
• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text
• Authentication uses JWT (JSON Web Tokens) transmitted over HTTPS
• We do not sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties

Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Settings page. Account deletion is immediate and permanent.

Children's Privacy

BingeWatcher is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
